On the third anniversary of their meeting each other (and as their families gathered for the Forth of July holiday), Nicholas revealed his proposal plan to family. His idea was to have everyone gather for a holiday that was important to Vivian, although public and holiday proposals were something they both agreed against (or so Vivian thought). 

On Thanksgiving Day 2017, both families gathered together for fellowship and food. An ongoing tradition for Vivian's family was for everyone to circle around and state what they were thankful for. As Nicholas' turn came, intentionally placed to the left of Vivian, he proceeded to state those things for which he was thankful. It was soon after this moment that all attention was shifted towards Vivian as he dropped to one knee. Vowing to end the celebration of "non-marriage" anniversaries, he asked for Vivian's hand in marriage as his wife. Completely caught off guard and overwhelmed with emotion, her answer was "YES!".
